Is Drone Deer Recovery Legal in Connecticut? (2026 Rules)
Connecticut has no rule that specifically allows or bans drone deer recovery. Its hunting guide and hunting laws don’t mention drones, but drones are banned on state parks, forests, and DEEP land. What the rules say.

Connecticut doesn’t have a rule that specifically allows or bans drone deer recovery. Its 2026 hunting guide and its fish and game laws don’t mention drones or aircraft. The one clear drone rule is about state land. Here’s what the rules say.
What Connecticut’s rules say
We checked the 2026 Connecticut Hunting and Trapping Guide and Connecticut’s fish and game laws (Chapter 490). Neither mentions drones, unmanned aircraft, or aircraft for hunting or recovering deer.
Which animals does this cover?
Connecticut’s hunting rules don’t address drones for any species. Its definition of hunting covers any bird, quadruped, or reptile.
Drones on state land
Per Connecticut DEEP’s drone policy, remote-controlled aircraft and drones are prohibited at Connecticut State Parks, State Forests, and other lands under DEEP’s control, unless DEEP allows it.
How Connecticut defines hunting
Connecticut law (Conn. Gen. Stat. § 26-1) defines hunting as:
“pursuing, shooting, killing and capturing any bird, quadruped or reptile and attempting to pursue, shoot, kill and capture any bird, quadruped or reptile, whether such act results in taking or not, including any act of assistance to any other person in taking or attempting to take any such animal.”
Before you fly
Because Connecticut’s rules don’t address drone recovery, check with Connecticut DEEP before a drone recovery, and don’t fly on state parks, state forests, or other DEEP land. Pilots who charge for a search need an FAA Part 107 certificate. If Connecticut adopts a drone recovery rule, we’ll update this article.
Finding a pilot
Drone Deer Tracker is adding pilots in New England. Check the map for the closest pilot to your hunt. Are you a thermal drone pilot in Connecticut? Apply to be listed.

Verify before you fly
Drone rules change, and how they apply can depend on your situation. Before any drone recovery, contact Connecticut DEEP to confirm it’s allowed.
